Will Arizona Sue The EPA?

WASHINGTON – Arizona is tired of waiting for the federal government to act on the state’s proposed air-quality plan and “very well may” sue the Environmental Protection Agency if action is not taken soon, a state official said Thursday.

“I’m getting ready to sue the EPA over SIPs (state implementation plans) because that seems to be the only way to get their attention,” said Henry Darwin, the director of Arizona’s Department of Environmental Quality.

He was one of several state environmental agency directors on Capitol Hill for a congressional roundtable Thursday on the Clean Air Act. In written remarks, Darwin said states have become “marginalized” by the EPA’s current process for considering state implementation plans.

  1. IF ANY BODY THINKS EPA IS GOING TO DO WHAT THEY SUPOSED TO DO, THINK AGAIN. THEY ONLY HAVE THINGS IN THER HEAD HOW TO RUIN PEOPLES LIVE.

  2. The way the federal government treats AZ like the ugly red-headed stepchild one would think they are trying to give the state back to Mexico. AZ has a better idea of what the needs of the state are w/o having to put up with the federal one size fits all mentality.

  3. The EPA is no longer worthy of power and should be shut down. If the state was smart, they would go forward with what they are having reviewed after a reasonable time, if the EPA don't like it tell them to go F- themselves.

  5. Are there any politicians in Washington that can stand up to this Administration and the EPA in particular? GOP controls the House and "purse". FUNDS TO EPA SHOULD BE CUT SIGNIFICANTLY.
Wake up Mr. Boehner. WAKE UP or get out of the way!
